Arts-based Healing Circles

Healing happens in relationship. Through circle practice and art-based healing work, participants engage the importance of healing and accountability in community. Monday sessions utilize a circle and activity based setup and Wednesday sessions engage youth through art based healing activities. Within the circles - small group discussions, journaling, mindfulness practices and games are utilized to engage young people and allow space for different types of learning and processing. Heal circles offer a group healing process that makes space for young people to vulnerably engage and share about their lived experience through these varieties of mediums and more.

How does Heal work? Twelve (12) to fifteen (15) Creative Justice youth participate in these peer-led circles. The circles are 9 months long with 12-15 participants meeting twice weekly for two hours each circle. All facilitators and participants are compensated and receive basic needs support such as rental and transportation assistance and grocery gift cards as available.

Topics covered in previous circles include but are not limited to: Self & collective care, emotional intelligence, boundaries, socialization, Restorative Justice vs Punitive Justice, accountability, shame & guilt, violence & power, the brain, trauma, resilience, grief, goodbyes & celebrations.
